Purpose Over Pressure! A Fresh Approach for Authors

Dear Faithful Author,

"I just want to write—not spend my time promoting my book on social media."

Does this sound familiar? I've heard this concern from many of you, and I used to feel the same way. But let me share how God shifted my perspective and opened paths I hadn’t imagined.

And the reality is, even the most well-known authors, the ones who’ve sold many copies, still hop on Twitter or Instagram to say, “Hey, I have a book; take a look!”

They understand that connecting with readers is an important part of our calling as Christian writers.

This was the key change for me: It’s not about spending hours scrolling or worrying over algorithms. It’s about showing up with authenticity and purpose, sharing the message God has placed in your heart with those who need it most.

This mindset shift transformed my approach:

  1. Social media isn't just promotion; it's a way to enhance your writing skills. Every post is a moment to craft a compelling message in fewer words.

  2. Think of it as chatting with friends about your passion. When I started viewing social media this way, it became enjoyable rather than a chore. Sharing snippets of my thoughts, my writing journey, or even just everyday moments felt less like a task and more like storytelling.

  3. It's not about perfection; it's about connection. Some of my most engaging posts were spontaneous thoughts I almost didn't share. Your readers are searching for hope, guidance, and encouragement every day. With some planning, your online presence can become a beacon that draws them in.

  4. God works in mysterious ways. I've had speaking invitations, collaborations, and even story ideas come from simple social media interactions.

Consider these three steps to begin:

  • Define Your Message: Remember, social media is just a tool. What’s the core message of your book? How does it help others? Focus on that, and let it guide your posts.

  • Choose One Platform: Don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to be everywhere. Pick one platform that feels natural to you and where your readers are most active. A single, consistent presence is more impactful than scattered efforts.

  • Schedule and Simplify: Create a content calendar with just 2-3 meaningful posts a week. Use tools like Buffer or Hootsuite to schedule them in advance, freeing you to write without constant interruption.

As Proverbs 18:16 says, "A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great." Your book is a gift, and social media can be a means to share it with those who need it most.

Don’t let sharing feel like a burden. See it as a way to expand your influence and fulfill the calling God has given you. You’re not just offering a book; you’re spreading a message that matters.

Keep writing, keep sharing, and see how God uses your words in ways beyond what you can imagine!
